Introducing
our kayak fishing experts and members of Team SouthWest PaddleSports...
Chris Baxter
Chris
Baxter was born and raised in Spring, TX and has spent countless hours
on local lakes, creeks, rivers and other small bodies in and around the
Houston area.
He started kayaking and kayak fishing when he was in The Boy Scouts of America and continued to develop as a kayak fisherman even after becoming an Eagle Scout. Chris discovered his passion for saltwater fishing at a young age and this passion was fueled when he moved to Corpus Christi to attend Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. After studying Environmental Biology, he returned to Spring to continue his education and his pursuit of game fish on all types of waters.
Chris has been kayaking and kayak fishing for over 14 years and enjoys sharing his knowledge of local waters and many of the techniques he has picked up through experience.
Charles C. Comeaux
Charles was born and raised in southwest Louisiana. With a father how was an avid sportsman, he was hunting and fishing by age five when his dad would "wrap me in a blanket, stick me in the bottom of a pirogue, and head off to the duck blind." He was shortly introduced to fishing and grew up taking advantage of every opportunity he had to drop his bait in the water.
He grew up primarily fishing for large mouth bass, sac-a-lait (crappie), bull bream, red fish, and speckled trout but also lived in northern Virginia for three years where he "loved floating the Shenandoah for small mouth bass."
In 2003, Charles moved to the Houston area where he found numerous opportunities to fish great lakes and bays for the same kinds of fish. He got into kayak fishing in 2008 because it gave him a "whole new way to enjoy the sport."
Charles has been fishing tournaments for years and recently started fishing the Saltwater/Kayak Series, which is a series of televised events on the Texas Coast centered around fishing for red fish.
Chris McLeod
Chris McLeod is from Angleton, Texas and grew up fishing the Upper
Texas Coast in the Freeport/Galveston area. Since an early age, he
waded and boated, chasing reds and trout in the shallows of Christmas
and Drum bay. An avid recreational and tournament fisherman, he has
fished almost every part of the Texas coast, from South Bay to Sabine.
Since high school, he has used a kayak to quietly stalk fish in places
inaccessible to others. His thorough knowledge of kayak fishing as
well as his background fishing up and down the coast has led to a very
successful tournament career, even in tournaments primarily dominated by
power boats.
When off the water, you can find Chris on the A&M Galveston Campus,
where he is pursuing an Ocean and Coastal Resources Degree. There, he is
an active member and delegate of the fishing club, and has helped many
realize the effectiveness of kayaks in pursuing shallow water fish.
Tony Gonzales
Tony is a valued member of our team and an excellent kayak fisherman. His bio will be updated soon.
